Last Saturday we met with two participants and the coordinator from the Youth OutLoud program to train them on how to conduct oral history interviews.
During the training, the two high school students shared their own knowledge about queer history, LGBTQ+ life in Columbia, and what they wanted to learn about the history of their community! Then we gave them the training on how to do an oral history interview, what questions to ask, and how to respond. Finally, they did a practice interview and tried out the skills they had learned!
We can’t wait to connect the youth with older members of the community to conduct interviews and continue to document community history through intergenerational connections.
